Translating Multifocal
Fused PMMA Crescent Design
The Crescent Fused is a monocentric, encapsulated-segment,
translating gas permeable bifocal contact lens. It uses prism ballast to
maintian rotational stability and lens position. This design is manufactured with a fused PMMA segment.
This design’s large reading segment makes it easier for
patients to transition from distance vision to near vision in downward gaze and
to maintain effective near vision for extended periods of time.
The
crescent shape of the reading segment maintains near-vision despite nasal
rotation below the centerline of the lens, and therefore is often
favored by patients who prefer the clarity of a translating/alternating design
yet suffer loss of near-vision with other translating designs due to excessive
lens rotation.
The contraindications for this design are a) narrow fissure, and b) low or
flaccid lower lid.
